IMLA Region 5 2004 Educator of the Year Iris Schelske
Iris is our 6th grade Language Arts teacher. She has been teaching at Averdeen Middle School for sixteen years. She is a talented teacher that shows how much she cares for her students every day. She has the right combination of showing the students her love for them and making sure they work hard. She uses games, songs and many activities to help the 6th grade students understand the concepts they are learning. She is in charge of organizing our ski trips each year. She is the advisor to the dance and cheer team. Iris is also the 6th grade team leader. I appreciate all that she does for the school, and the help she has given me in my time here. -Craig Miller, Principal Mrs. Schelske was a great teacher and a friend. Not only did she teach us "school things," like spelling and grammar, but she also taught us patience and kindness. She was one of the nicest teachers I've ever had, and was more patient with me than some teachers are. I also learned how to spell very well and how to use my imagination with the stories we read. -Rachel Ledford, former student Mrs. Schelske taught me alot while learning more about middle school. She taught me about spelling and literature. She helped me get used to middle school and 6th grade. I was very nervous about starting middle school and she helped make it better for me. She is a great teacher. -Tiffany Barrus, former student She made English fun by having us sing songs about nouns and verbs. She also helped me enjoy reading good books. -Rodrigo Lemos, former student.
